“Knowing my worth and sticking to it has been a huge obstacle that I have had to overcome. My very smart wife put it to me simply: “Ask yourself what you would love to earn to be able to freely create at your max capacity, then set the bar there.””

How would you describe your creative aesthetic?

As far as creative aesthetic goes, I would call it “Heightened Minimalism”

If you could collaborate with any creative in the world for a project, who would it be?

Being that I am an artist and musician myself, I would love to collaborate with artists like Anderson .Paak , or The 1975… either in art direction or music. I think both of them are killing it in their lanes. Anderson .Paak had one of the greatest Instagram feeds I’ve ever seen last year and the work that Samuel Burges Johnson does on The1975’s stuff is so inspiring to me. They are one of the most forward-thinking artists around right now in my opinion.

How do you work against self-doubt when it comes to your creative abilities?

When I’m working against self-doubt (which happens often for me), I often have to pause my current project and begin to work on something creative that is just for me. That helps me find joy and inspiration in creativity again, and ultimately gives me the confidence to jump back into the task at hand once I’ve gotten over myself.

What has been your biggest obstacle as a creator and how did you overcome it?

Knowing my worth and sticking to it has been a huge obstacle that I have had to overcome. My very smart wife put it to me simply: “Ask yourself what you would love to earn to be able to freely create at your max capacity, then set the bar there.” I learned I can always renegotiate rates, but selling myself too short always left me feeling frustrated and I usually wasn’t able to enjoy the creative process as much.

What three words would you use to describe your work?

Intentional / Muted / Symmetrical

 How do you stay motivated?

I follow a lot of great designers and design blogs. My favorite of which is a company from the UK called ‘It’s Nice That’ (www.itsnicethat.com). They do a ton of awesome write-ups and articles about amazing designers and creatives from the UK, Europe, and the world.

What affirmation would you give to an upcoming creative?

Don’t get discouraged by the vast amount of other creatives there are. Start with what you know and focus on that. Don’t follow the hype of what everyone else is doing, & try to mimic other design trends. Discover what you like, pull the inspiration from it & find ways to make it your own. There’s always something you’re thinking about that no one else is, so find a way to showcase that in your art.
